What is the National Fat-Loss-A-ThonTM?
The National Fat-Loss-A-ThonTM is a 12-week on-line competition aimed at improving overall health and well-being, assisting in weight-loss and providing simple and effective lifestyle changes.
This new and exciting event will help to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits for the prevention of obesity, type II diabetes and heart disease.
The event aso aims to raise $250,000 for The Sports Rewards Foundation whilst improving the overall health and fitness of the nation through individual entrants as well through corporate and business teams running the competition as a 12-week health initiativen and participating health clubs and personal trainers.
What if I don't belong to a gym or have access to fancy equipment?
Although some of the exercises require the use of gym equipment, most of them can be done at home with just a few pieces of equipment, such as a set of adjustable dumbbells, an exercise ball, an exercise mat and a set of resistance bands; all of which are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased from a sporting goods store.
Regardless of whether you choose to train at home, at a gym or with a
personal trainer, the exercises will help
you to transform your body whilst getting fitter, firmer and
stronger.
What if I have never exercised before?
There are two exercise programs contained in the program; The 22-Minute Fat-Burner Workout and The Strength Training Workout.
The 22-Minute Fat-Burner Workout is designed for each person to work to their own fitness level, so when you are working at 50% of your maximum intensity this might be a slow walk, 75% of your maximum intensity might be a quick walk and 100% of your maximum intensity may be a very brisk walk. As this is 'self-guided' you will be able to judge where your fitness is currently at and how quickly your fitness increases over the weeks ahead.
The Strenth Training Workout has a beginners option so you would start with this program. If you have never strength trained before, I would recommend using a personal trainer or joining a health club to get some guidance to ensure your technique is correct so that you can get the maximum benefits from your workouts; even just a few sessions with a personal trainer can have maximum benefits on your future workouts.

I have a very busy schedule, will I be able to fit this in?
Yes!
The cardio workouts are only 22 minutes each, although we recommend doing them 3 times a week you can do them as often as your schedule allows.
The strength training workouts are only 45 minutes and again, whilst we recommend doing them 2-3 times per week, you will still gain benefits from them if you only have time to do one a week.
The meal planners have all been done for you and the recipes take mostly 5-15 minutes to prepare. If you are 'really' busy and find yourself on the run most of the day, you can use protein shakes or bars for up to 3 meals a day, but make sure you still have your 3 proper meals a day too.
I have tried other diets, what makes this program different?
The program being used by the National Fat-Loss-A-ThonTM is not a diet, it is based on The Real Body Plan which is an effective, healthy weight loss program designed for real people who really love food. Think of The Real Body Plan as a lifestyle change, not just a short-term diet or weight loss solution. .
The Real Body Plan combines the latest scientific research to maximize your body’s ability to burn fat in the most effective way possible via eating the right foods at the right times and exercising smarter, not harder. We have formulated our program to allow you to successfully lose weight while building your lean muscle mass.
The Real Body Plan is a simple, effective, healthy weight-loss plan, especially when compared to other diets you’ve likely experienced without success because our program is not about starving yourself via a portion controlled, low calorie diet.
What is the average weight loss amount per week?
Weight-Loss results vary dramatically from person to person depending on how committed they are to the program, their current level of health and fitness and how much weight they need to lose overall.
On average people lose anywhere from 1-3 kilos per week, however because we recommend strength training to help build muscle (which in turn burns fat) 1 kilo per week is a great target. Remember also, that the scale isn’t the only test, so check other indicators such as your waistline measurement and how well your clothes are fitting you.
Individual results may vary, and are dependant upon various factors such as your weight when you start, targeted weight loss goal, level of exercise, presence of medical conditions, use of medications, how closely you follow the meal planners and eating guidelines, etc. As with most programs, the organiser of the National Fat-Loss-A-Thon suggest that you consult with your physician prior to starting.
Can I do the program if I am a vegetarian?
Yes. There are numerous vegetarian options available within the recipes.
How will the competition be judged?
The competition will be judged 50% on your physical tranformation based on your before and after photos and 50% on your 'inner' transformation based on your answers in your pre and post questionnaires.
It is important to really clearly articulate your thoughts and feeling with us when you are writing down your answers so that we can really share your journey with you!

Are there any special requirements for my before and after photos, like holding a newspaper or having them professionally shot?
You are more than welcome to hold a copy of your local newspaper if you would like to date your photos for your own records, however this is not a requirement of the 2010 National Fat-Loss-A-ThonTM.
You also don't need to have your photos professionally take, shave or use fake tan for your photos. Again, this is your own personal preference and some entrants will do this simply to show off their new body shape and highlight their definition a little more clearly.
Here are some tips to help you with taking great before and after photos:
Clothing
- Try to wear the same or similar clothing in the “before” and “after” photos.
- Swimsuits, shorts, or exercise clothes are the best choices for show your body shape, both before and after; remember that if you cover up parts of your body it will be difficult to judge your progress.
- Make sure your photos are 'full-length' and be careful not to cut your legs out out of the photo.
- Ggood, clear photos are essential to ensure we can see your results; taking them outside in either the morning or the late evening (when the sun is low), as the light is generally better for photos at that time.
- Try to find a plain background without any clutter around to take your photos against.
- Please ensure your photos are a minimum of 1200 pixels wide and are saved in JPEG format before uploading
- Please stand with your arms at your sides or on your hips in the “before” and “after” photos.
- If you are opting for professional photographs, you will need to ensure that if the photographer has 'copyrighted' the photos that they have signed a release of use to Real Body Enterprises so that we are able to use the photos should you be one of our finalists; this will need to be emailed separately to admin@realbodyenterprises.com
Will my photos be displayed as soon as I enter?
Your photos will be kept on file for the duration of the competition so that we can judge your complete entry. So they will not be publicly displayed as soon as you enter. However your before and after photos may be used by Real Body Enterprises to promote its business and/or future National Fat-Loss-A-Thon events.
